HISTORY OF THE TIBET HUT
The Tibet Hut was built in 1959-1961 by hotelier and tourism pioneer Fritz Angerer.
After reading the fascinating book "Seven Years in Tibet", Tibet-enthusiast Fritz Angerer felt the urge to contact the author Heinrich Harrer. This resulted in a long-term pen-friendship.
Inspired by the "passion Tibet", the book and its author, Fritz Angerer contacted star architect Gutweniger, who helped him building the unique Tibetan tower on the Stelvio Pass.
The large sun terrace was added in the 90s. Every year, thousands of visitors enjoy the breath-taking views from the Alpenhotel Tibet Hut while breathing in the fresh mountain air and experiencing that unique feeling freedom, only the Alps can give you.
The building still preserves its original Tibetan style and interior architecture. However, the Tibetan influence is only limited to the architecture. As an experience, visitors will find a typical South Tyrolean mountain hut, which distinguishes itself through its homely atmosphere and cuisine of South Tyrol and the Valtellina.
